EMDR
EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
EMDR is an evidence-based therapeutic approach designed to help individuals process and overcome traumatic memories and distressing life experiences. This unique method works by stimulating both sides of the brain, often through guided eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones, to help clients access and reprocess traumatic memories in a safe and controlled way.
How EMDR Works
EMDR helps your brain process disturbing memories, moving them from short-term to long-term storage where they lose their emotional charge. Rather than just talking through trauma, EMDR allows clients to re-experience these memories with reduced emotional intensity, often uncovering insights and achieving relief that traditional methods may not reach. Sessions often involve identifying specific memories that still trigger distress, visualizing the event, and engaging in guided bilateral stimulation to promote healthy processing.
Who Can Benefit
EMDR is highly effective for treating trauma-related symptoms, anxiety, phobias, PTSD, and negative self-beliefs stemming from past experiences. It’s beneficial for both adults and children and can be especially helpful if you feel “stuck” in traditional talk therapy. By gently guiding you through difficult memories without retraumatizing, EMDR provides a path to healing for those who’ve experienced significant life disruptions.
What to Expect
Sessions are conducted in a calm, supportive environment, where I will guide you through each step of the EMDR process. Together, we’ll target specific memories, establish positive coping mechanisms, and work at a pace that feels right for you.
